Ghanaian former midfielder Derek Boateng has claimed that England are wary of facing the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana, drawn in Group L, will face Panama in their opening match in Toronto on June 17, before taking on England in Boston on June 23. The group campaign will conclude against Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27.
Speaking in an interview, Boateng, who was part of Ghana’s 2010 World Cup squad in South Africa, suggested that England, under head coach Thomas Tuchel, are not relishing the prospect of facing the four-time African champions.
“England is not tough for us. England is afraid of us,” he told Sporty FM.
Despite his confidence, Boateng urged the Black Stars to focus on their opening fixture against Panama, stressing the importance of starting the tournament strongly.
Having exited at the group stage in both the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the 2022 tournament in Qatar, Ghana will be aiming for a deeper run at the expanded 2026 finals, jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
