The Vice President of Ghana, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has stressed that empowering women is a strategic investment in national development rather than an act of charity.

In a message posted on Facebook to mark International Women’s Day on Sunday, March 8, 2026, she extended warm greetings to women and girls in Ghana and around the world, while highlighting their immense contributions to national progress.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang noted that Ghana’s theme for this year’s celebration, “Giving to Gain,” reflects ongoing efforts to increase women’s participation in governance and decision-making.

According to her, the government’s policy to ensure women occupy at least 30 percent of public appointments demonstrates the importance of inclusive leadership in shaping national development.

She added that expanding opportunities for women across sectors such as business, academia, civil society, the creative industry and faith leadership would further strengthen the country’s leadership capacity.

The Vice President emphasised that empowering women remains essential to building a stronger and more confident nation, and wished all women a happy International Women’s Day.
