Former Sports Minister Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has called for the inclusion of Eddie Nketiah and Callum Hudson-Odoi in Ghana’s final squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Ghana will make their fifth appearance at the tournament next summer, co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico, having topped their qualifying group with 25 points.

Reports indicate that both Nketiah and Hudson-Odoi, who have represented England at various levels, are willing to commit to the Black Stars.

While some have suggested leaving out players who did not feature in the qualifiers, Vanderpuye stressed the importance of tapping into the talent pool of Ghanaian-origin players, particularly with Ghana drawn in the same group as England.

“The good thing is that we are going to play against England,” the former Member of Parliament for Odododiodio Constituency said on Onua TV. “It will rather give us a psychological advantage over them. They won’t have that overconfidence.

“Imagine having Jordan [Ayew], [Antoine] Semenyo, Eddie Nketiah, and Hudson-Odoi in attack! It makes us stronger,” he added.

Ghana has been placed in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. Their campaign opens against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, followed by a clash with England in Boston on June 23, and concludes with a match against Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27.
