The Eastern Vultures have called for the immediate annulment of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries held on February 7, 2026, in the Ayawaso East Constituency, following allegations of widespread vote-buying.
The primaries reportedly produced Mr. Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, former Member of Parliament for Akwatia, as the winner.
While the NDC prepares to present its candidate for the March 3, 2026 parliamentary by-election, concerns have arisen over the integrity of the process, with social media and traditional media reports highlighting clear and damning evidence of inducements during the election.
After reviewing the available evidence, the Eastern Vultures strongly condemned what they described as a “brazen assault on internal party democracy.”
“The leadership of the NDC must immediately annul the results of the Ayawaso East Parliamentary Primaries. What transpired is a shameful chapter in Ghana’s democratic journey and must not be whitewashed under any circumstances,” the group stated.
They further demanded the prosecution of all aspirants and individuals found culpable once the party completes its investigations. “This is necessary to serve as a strong deterrent to others who habitually seek to buy their way to political power despite a clear lack of competence or credibility,” the statement added.
The Eastern Vultures warned that accepting the alleged fraudulent results without decisive action would send a dangerous signal internationally, suggesting that corruption has become institutionalized in Ghanaian politics.
They argued that failure to prosecute those involved would damage Ghana’s democratic reputation and negatively affect its standing in the global community.
The statement was signed by David Prah, Convener and Chairman of the Eastern Vultures.
