The Member of Parliament for Ketu South and Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Dzifa Abla Gomashie, has rolled out a filmmaking training initiative aimed at equipping young people with practical skills for Ghana’s growing creative industry.
The programme is designed to give participants hands-on exposure to real-world filmmaking by connecting them directly with industry professionals and modern production tools.
Speaking to Adom News during a visit to the training centre, Madam Gomashie said the initiative is focused on nurturing the next generation of filmmakers through practical instruction and mentorship.
The training is being facilitated by renowned filmmaker Ivan Quashigah and his production team, who are leading a one-week intensive masterclass covering key areas of film production.

To enhance practical learning, the MP’s office facility has been adapted for the programme, with an existing ICT centre converted into a functional film studio for training purposes.
Madam Gomashie explained that her decision to invest in the creative potential of young people is inspired by her own long-standing experience in the arts.

“I have spent more than 40 years in this industry. I know what it has done for me as a person, and I want to pass that on to the younger generation,” she said.
The initiative follows growing interest among young people in Ketu South who aspire to careers in filmmaking and related creative fields but lack access to training and equipment.
By providing mentorship, technical support and industry exposure, the programme seeks to bridge the gap between raw talent and professional opportunity.
Beyond the local setting, the Tourism and Culture Minister noted the expanding influence of film and music video production across Africa and the Ghanaian diaspora, often referred to as the “17th region” of the country.
She described the creative arts as powerful tools for storytelling, cultural promotion and economic growth on the global stage.
Madam Gomashie expressed confidence that participants will complete the programme with renewed confidence and clear direction to pursue careers in the film industry.
She added that by the end of the training, trainees would be equipped to develop their skills and “fly as high as they want to” within the creative space.
