The driver involved in the road accident that injured former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua may face prosecution for reckless driving, according to sources familiar with the investigation.

Preliminary findings by the Federal Road Safety Corps indicate that the vehicle was travelling at excessive speed and engaged in wrongful overtaking—offences considered serious breaches of traffic regulations, particularly when fatalities occur.

Investigators are reportedly finalising documentation to be sent to the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division, which is working with prosecutors to determine the appropriate charges. Prosecution for dangerous or reckless driving causing death is said to be under consideration.

Joshua sustained a fractured leg in the crash, while two of his close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, tragically lost their lives.

The accident, which occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, has reignited public debate about road safety and accountability on Nigerian highways.
