Deputy Attorney-General, Justice Srem Sai, has dismissed claims that the Attorney-General’s office has misplaced evidence in the ongoing criminal case involving former National Signals Bureau (NSB) Director-General, Kwabena Adu-Boahene.
In a statement shared on X, Mr. Srem Sai stressed that all relevant materials remain intact and had already been filed with the court.
“The Attorney-General’s office has not lost any evidence regarding the ongoing Republic v Adu-Boahene criminal trial,” he clarified.
He explained that the prosecution had submitted comprehensive documentation, including contracts of sale, bank transfer records, account statements, company registration papers, property ownership documents, purchase receipts, INTERPOL stolen vehicle reports, investigative caution and charge statements, records of undeclared assets, a flow chart tracing money movements through several accounts, as well as testimonies from three witnesses.
According to him, certified copies of these documents had also been served on the accused persons.
“Court-certified copies of each of these documents have been duly served on each of the accused persons. So, it is not even realistic that the documents could be lost so as to jeopardise the prosecution of the case,” he said.
On the status of proceedings, the Deputy AG confirmed that the trial had already made progress before the judiciary went on its annual break.
“Before the start of the legal vacation on July 31, the first of our three prosecution witnesses had completed testifying and had been cross-examined by the lawyers of three of the four accused persons,” he disclosed.
He indicated that the trial will continue in October once the courts resume sitting after the legal vacation.
Mr. Adu-Boahene, his wife Angela Adjei-Boateng, Mildred Donkor, and a fourth accused person are facing trial for allegedly embezzling GH¢49 million in state funds and using the proceeds to acquire properties. The Attorney-General’s office has not lost any evidence regarding the ongoing Republic v Adu-Boahene criminal trial.
