The Ghana CSOs Platform on SDG4, in collaboration with the United Nations in Ghana and key education-focused organisations, commemorated United Nations Day 2025 and the UN’s 80th Anniversary (UN@80) under the theme “Education Shapes the Future.”
The event, held on Tuesday, October 29, 2025, at St. John’s Grammar Senior High School in Achimota, brought together students, educators, civil society leaders, and development partners. Activities included student debates, cultural displays, and drama performances, all highlighting education’s role in promoting peace, inclusion, and sustainable development.

Joseph Tettey Afangbe, Founder and Executive Director of Young Visionary Leaders Ghana and Co-Chair of the Ghana CSOs Platform on SDGs, stressed the importance of education in achieving national and global progress.
“As we celebrate UN@80, we reaffirm that education remains the foundation upon which peace, prosperity, and sustainable development are built. The theme ‘Education Shapes the Future’ reminds us that every investment in learning is an investment in our shared future,” he said. He urged the government to sustain policies promoting quality, inclusive, and equitable education for all.
Representing the UN in Ghana, Mrs. Cynthia Prah, National Information Officer at the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Accra, emphasised the need to reimagine education to meet future challenges. Quoting UNESCO’s Future of Education report, she said:

“Education is not just preparation for the future; it is the act of creating it. It’s how we imagine and build the world we want to live in, a world that is more just, inclusive, peaceful, and sustainable.”
Mrs. Prah highlighted the importance of schools fostering cooperation, creativity, and civic responsibility, urging educational spaces to nurture both knowledge and social consciousness.
The event concluded with an awards ceremony recognising outstanding student debaters and participants for their creativity, innovation, and commitment to educational excellence.
As the global community marks UN@80, the Ghana CSOs Platform on SDG4, alongside partners including STAR Ghana Foundation, Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC), Young Visionary Leaders Ghana (YVLG), Foundation for Environmental Watch, and Dynamic Works Foundation, reaffirmed their commitment to promoting Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education). They pledged continued collaboration with government, civil society, and the UN system to ensure education remains a tool for building a more equitable, peaceful, and sustainable world.
