Coka urges female journalists to promote peace and national cohesion

Former Afigya Kwabre South Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, is admonishing female journalists to harness their platforms to promote peace and national cohesion.

Speaking at a media engagement in Kumasi, the NPP stalwart, known politically as “Coka” in the Ashanti region stressed on the significant role of women in national development, touting their abilities to shape national discourse with their insights.

His admonition comes on the seeming disunity and conflicts erupting in certain parts of the country, as he urged media personalities who wield much authority to inform and educate the society to be peace ambassadors.

“Irrespective of one’s jurisdiction, if one region or community was in conflict, it has rippling effect in another community or region. You must endeavour to be peace ambassadors in the community, promoting dialogues that ensure unity,” he noted.

Chairman Coka met with selected female show hosts, producers, reporters, and editors in the Ashanti region in a maiden interaction with media personalities.

Acknowledging the potentials of women, Mr. Appiah recounted reasons that informed his deliberate decision and efforts to increase women participation in political activities in his constituency during his tenure.

He bemoaned the habitual neglect exhibited by some political figures toward female journalists by not engaging them in political discourse and other vital topics that promote development.

He further encouraged the journalists to push for their inclusion and membership in the national umbrella for journalists – the Ghana Journalists Association.

“Register to be members of GJA. Joining professional groups is necessary in shaping the work you do and also to get assistance from such professional associations in times of need,” he noted.
