CIHRM Volta/Oti chapter launched with maiden conference in Ho

The Chartered Institute of Human Resource Management (CIHRM), Ghana, Volta/Oti Chapter, has officially launched its activities with a maiden conference in Ho.

The event brought together professionals, academics, and industry leaders under the theme “The HR Professional: The Pivot of Industrial Growth.”

Chairman of CIHRM Ghana, Stanley Akabuah, highlighted the crucial role human resource practitioners play in advancing industrial and organizational growth. He explained that the launch was not merely ceremonial but a declaration of commitment to excellence in people management.

According to him, the chapter would serve as a hub for knowledge sharing, professional development, ethical leadership, and collaboration across sectors. He added that the vision behind the theme was to build a vibrant network of HR professionals who are informed, inspired, and influential.

Mr. Akabuah stressed his executives’ dedication to inclusivity, excellence, and integrity, encouraging members to share expertise, mentor colleagues, volunteer, and commit to lifelong learning.

In his welcome address, CEO of CIHRM Ghana, Dr. Francis Eduku, commended the Volta/Oti executives for convening HR leaders, industry captains, and policymakers to deliberate on the role of HR in industrial growth. He emphasized the need for HR professionals to align with national economic ambitions such as President John Dramani Mahama’s proposed 24-hour economy, noting that it would require a “24-hour talent framework” driven by agility, resilience, multi-skilling, and continuous learning.

Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, also praised the chapter for selecting a theme that resonates with the 2025 Budget. He noted that the budget seeks to reset the economy by removing burdensome taxes such as the e-levy and betting levy, investing in skills training through a 300 million-cedi National Apprenticeship Programme, establishing a Women’s Development Bank, and committing more than thirteen billion cedis to the “Big Push” infrastructure programme.

According to him, HR professionals are central to linking these national policies to organizational growth by preparing the workforce for new opportunities, supporting women entrepreneurs, fostering innovation, and ensuring fair and ethical workplace practices.

The event also featured panel discussions and presentations on how strategic human resource management can support national development, strengthen institutions, and improve productivity. Participants emphasized the importance of continuous training, ethical leadership, and policy advocacy in advancing the HR profession in Ghana.

The launch of the Volta/Oti Chapter was hailed as a significant step in decentralizing CIHRM’s work, bringing professional development closer to practitioners while building a strong human resource base to support Ghana’s industrial and economic transformation agenda.
