The Central Regional Minister, Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, has withdrawn DRIP equipment from the Upper Denkyira West District in strict compliance with a directive from the National DRIP Secretariat.

The equipment, which was being used for a supposed reclamation exercise without authorisation from the National Secretariat, became the subject of intense public debate following the discovery that one of the low-bed equipment had been partially burnt by suspected illegal miners (galamseyers) during an inspection tour by the National DRIP Coordinator.

In response to the incident, the Regional Minister has immediately instituted an investigation into the circumstances that led to the dastardly act.

Meanwhile, the National DRIP Coordinator, Edwin Nii Lantey Vandepuye, has issued a strong warning to any individuals or authorities who unilaterally deploy DRIP equipment for purposes other than road works and cause damage to the equipment, stressing that culprits will be surcharged with the full cost of repair or replacement.
