Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), George Arthur, has announced plans to establish sanitation courts and reinstate town councils to improve law enforcement and public order in the city.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Arthur said the sanitation courts will operate within the metropolis and aim to reduce lawlessness.

“Once they get hold of you, we won’t have to take you far. The judiciary has agreed to provide judges who will preside over these cases locally,” he explained.

He said the initiative is expected to begin around March, but before implementation, the authorities will conduct extensive public sensitisation.

“We will go to the Information Service Department, use radio stations, and visit every community to educate people about these laws,” Arthur said.

The MCE added that he personally plans to engage communities across the metropolis, including churches, schools, and other public spaces.

“As the chief executive, I will go with stakeholders and assembly leaders to ensure that citizens understand the rules before any enforcement begins,” he noted.

Mr. Arthur said Cape Coast has 45 electoral areas across the north and south, and that he manages two constituencies alongside MPs Ricket Hagan and Dr. Kwamena Mintah Nyarko.

He stressed the importance of community education in making the initiative effective.

“I believe when we implement these sanitation courts, lawlessness in Cape Coast will significantly reduce,” he said.
