Asante Kotoko coach Karim Zito has rejected calls for his removal, insisting that demands for his dismissal are premature.
The former Black Satellites coach has come under pressure amid a run of inconsistent results this season, with Kotoko currently fifth in the Ghana Premier League, having accumulated 35 points from 21 matches.
The Porcupine Warriors’ struggles continued on Sunday as they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Aduana FC. After a goalless draw in regulation time at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kotoko lost 4-2 on penalties, deepening concerns among supporters.
Fans had already voiced their desire for Zito’s exit ahead of the Round of 16 tie. Speaking to Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show on Friday, January 6, before the game, the coach called for patience.
“Calls for my dismissal are premature. I ask the fans to support the team as we hope to achieve our target,” Zito said.
The defeat adds to mounting pressure on the coach, with the FA Cup widely regarded as Kotoko’s clearest opportunity for silverware this season. In the league, they trail leaders Medeama SC by eight points, and the early cup exit is expected to increase scrutiny on both the squad and technical staff.
Kotoko now shift focus to the eagerly anticipated Super Clash against Hearts of Oak on Sunday, February 14, at the Baba Yara Stadium in Matchday 22.
