Ghanaian referee Daniel Laryea has been appointed to officiate the CAF Confederation Cup clash between South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs and Egyptian side Al Masry, following a decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The match is scheduled for Sunday, January 8, in South Africa, with both clubs aiming to secure qualification to the next round.

Laryea’s appointment comes on the back of a string of high-profile assignments across the continent. At the recently concluded AFCON, he officiated the semi-final between Morocco and Nigeria, earning widespread praise as one of the tournament’s standout referees, despite some criticism from sections of Nigerian supporters.

Domestically, Laryea continues to receive recognition for his achievements. He was recently honoured by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after receiving his FIFA referee badge, confirming his status among Ghana’s elite referees eligible for international duty.

His selection for the Kaizer Chiefs–Al Masry fixture highlights Ghana’s growing influence and presence in African football officiating.
