Bueman SHS headmaster appeals for upgrade to category ‘A’

The headmaster of Bueman Senior High School (SHS) in the Buem-Jasikan Municipality of the Oti Region, Frank Boamah, has appealed to the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to elevate the school to a Category ‘A’ institution.

Speaking at the school’s 65th anniversary celebration, themed “Honoring Our Past, Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders,” Mr. Boamah said the upgrade would enhance the school’s reputation, improve resource allocation, and boost academic performance.

He noted that the Oti Region currently has no Category ‘A’ schools, making it necessary for Bueman SHS to attain that status to compete nationally.

The headmaster cited the school’s consistent academic excellence, strong performance in national examinations, and its record of producing outstanding alumni as reasons for consideration.

Mr. Boamah also called for increased government investment in infrastructure, including dormitories and classrooms, to accommodate the growing student population. He urged alumni and the local community to support the school’s development efforts.

The Oti Regional Minister, John Kwadwo Gyapong, who was present at the event, supported the call, emphasizing that upgrading Bueman SHS would strengthen the region’s educational system.

He added that other schools, including Kadjebi Asato SHS, St. Mary’s SHS in Lolobi, and Krachi SHS, also merit consideration for Category ‘A’ status.

Mr. Gyapong further highlighted the region’s infrastructure challenges, noting that inadequate facilities continue to affect academic performance and push many parents to send their children to schools outside the region.

He appealed to the Education Ministry to prioritize infrastructure development in Oti’s second-cycle institutions.
