The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is expected to name a new head coach for the Black Stars within the next three weeks, according to Executive Council member Frederick Acheampong.
The position became vacant following the dismissal of Otto Addo after Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Germany in their final friendly of the March international window.
That result came just days after a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria in Vienna, a run of poor performances that intensified scrutiny on the coach.
Addo, who was reappointed in March 2024, had been leading Ghana’s build-up to the World Cup. With his departure, attention has turned to potential successors, with several experienced managers reportedly in contention.
Among the names linked to the role are former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah—currently in charge of Sudan—as well as Walid Regragui, Marc Brys, Hervé Renard and Tom Saintfiet.
Acheampong emphasized that while the GFA is working within a tight timeline, the priority remains appointing the right candidate rather than rushing the process.
“In the next three weeks, we should have our next coach because the next match is in May; however, we need to get it right,” he told Kessben FM.
The Black Stars are scheduled to regroup in May for international friendlies against Mexico on May 22 and Wales on June 2 as part of their preparations for the World Cup.
Ghana will be making their fifth appearance at the global tournament and have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama, with hopes of progressing beyond the group stage for the first time since 2010.
