Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren says Ghana are gearing up for a stern test when they take on England’s Lionesses in an international friendly this December at St. Mary’s Stadium.
The encounter hands the Queens a rare chance to measure themselves against one of the game’s powerhouses.
England, the reigning European champions and a consistent force on the world stage, present the kind of high-level competition Bjorkegren believes is necessary for Ghana’s growth.
For the Swedish tactician, the result is secondary to the lessons the match will offer.
He views the fixture as a crucial stage to assess his squad’s development, evaluate their readiness against elite opposition, and fine-tune key areas ahead of major tournaments.
“We’re going to play against an extremely good team. And we can just be completely honest. Even if we are improving, if we’re doing better, we are not on their level,” he told 3Sports.
“We’re just not going to be like people on vacation and take photos. If we can make a draw, it will be great. I mean, even better, of course, a win, but it’s going to be tough. Hopefully, we can do a strong game and at least be close to them,” he added.
The friendly forms part of Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) as the Black Queens continue their rebuild, determined to reclaim their status among Africa’s elite.
