Black Queens’ bonuses will be paid – Sports Minister Kofi Adams assures

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, has given his assurance that the outstanding bonuses owed to the Black Queens will be settled soon.

His comments come in the wake of reports that the women’s national team threatened to boycott their upcoming second-leg clash against Egypt over unpaid winning bonuses.

The Queens reportedly refused to train on both Saturday and Sunday following their return from Ismailia, where they recorded an impressive 3–0 victory over Egypt in the first leg of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers.

However, in an interview with Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Minister Adams acknowledged the delay in payments and confirmed that the Ministry is actively working to resolve the issue, which also affects the Black Satellites, Ghana’s U-20 men’s team.

“In the case of the U-20, their per diems have not been paid,” he said.

“We have not paid them for the AFCON they participated in Egypt, but all is in process. Once the Finance Ministry gives the release letter and the Controller and Accountant General credits the account, we will honour all payments, including those of the Black Queens.”

Adams appealed to both the players and the public for patience, assuring them that the government remains committed to fulfilling its obligations.

“We are pleading with them. This is our country, Ghana, and we will honour what is due to them,” he added.

The Black Queens are scheduled to host Egypt on Tuesday at the Accra Sports Stadium in the second leg of their WAFCON qualifier. The 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will be hosted in Morocco.
