The Headmistress of Presbyterian Senior High School (Presec) in Bechem, Ahafo Region, Nancy Arthur, has raised concerns over the school’s inadequate classrooms and other essential resources needed to enhance teaching and learning.
Speaking to Adom News during the school’s 60th anniversary celebration, themed “60 Years of Impactful Education: Honoring the Past, Shaping the Future,” Arthur highlighted that overcrowded classrooms are significantly affecting the quality of education.

The school, which has over 3,000 students, has classrooms designed for 50 learners accommodating up to 70, making effective teaching and learning challenging.
She noted that an abandoned classroom block, if completed and commissioned, could help address the shortage of classrooms. Arthur also emphasized the need for more computers to improve ICT learning and new furniture for the assembly hall.
In response, Charity Gardiner, the Minister of Ahafo Region, and Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, the National Coordinator for the District Roads Improvement Programme (DRIP) and a Presec alumnus, assured that the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) is set to undertake 29 projects to improve school infrastructure in the Ahafo Region, including Bechem Presec.
They also encouraged students to prioritize their studies and limit time spent on social media, stressing that excessive use of such platforms should be curtailed in favor of serious academic engagement for a brighter future.
