Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has dismissed claims that he underperformed in Zongo communities during the 2024 general elections, describing them as baseless propaganda.
Addressing party members in the Asokwa constituency of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, September 10, Dr. Bawumia refuted suggestions that Muslims and Zongo voters abandoned him, insisting the allegations lack evidence.
“The propaganda is that Muslims and the Zongo people did not vote for me. When I heard it, I asked: Where is the data to back these claims? For me, if you tell me something, I need data to prove it,” he said.
He also rejected assertions by a presidential aspirant that he won only a single polling station across all Zongo communities nationwide. “Recently, one aspirant claimed that the only Zongo polling station I won was at Effutu. But when we checked, I actually won at his own Zongo polling station,” Dr. Bawumia noted.
“In the Zongos, we garnered more votes in 2024 than in 2020. In the Ashanti Region, we also increased our votes, even though we did not win many constituencies,” he added.
Dr. Bawumia maintained that such claims were meant to undermine his image but vowed they would not succeed. “People talk without data because they want to gossip. But if that gossip comes to my side, I will confront it with data and put it to rest,” he asserted.
