Nana Akomea, chairman of the communications directorate for Bawumia’s campaign, has debunked Bryan Acheampong’s recent assertions that Bawumia’s candidature was the major cause of the NPP loss in 2024.
Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo programme last Thursday, he described Bryan Acheampong’s assertion as just his personal conjecture, lacking any basis in credible research.
Explaining his point to host Kwame Sefa Kayi, Nana Akomea cited the reports of several research works done in 2024 before the elections, such as those of the EIU, Afrobarometer, and Global Info Analytics. All these surveys reported that NPP would lose the elections due to the prevailing living conditions, i.e., bread and butter issues.
He further cited research work done in 2025 after the elections, such as the Prof. Ocquaye Committee and the German Konrad Adenauer, which all confirmed the same reasons—the economy and disaffection against government—as the major causes of the defeat. Nana Akomea asserted that in none of these key research works was the candidature of Bawumia cited as a cause of the loss.
He challenged Bryan Acheampong to name one credible survey to back his assertion.
Nana Akomea concluded that recent surveys on the coming NPP primaries, including Global Info Analytics and Konrad Adenauer, all report on Bawumia’s growing popularity with the delegates, a development that further debunks the conjecture that Bawumia was the cause of the NPP’s defeat in 2024.
