Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Awutu Senya East Constituency have raised concerns over what they describe as “Rambo-style” arrests of their members by the police in the municipality.

According to the constituency executives, several party members have been detained without committing any offence, with police officers allegedly citing “orders from above” as justification. They said the actions have created fear and intimidation within the party.

Their concerns follow the recent arrest of the constituency’s Communication Officer, King Eric, which they described as forceful and unnecessary. The executives claim that a total of four party members have faced similar arrests this year alone.

Addressing a press conference in front of the Central East Regional Police Command, Awutu Senya East NDC Constituency Organiser Daniel Takyi Mensah appealed to President John Dramani Mahama and the party’s national leadership to intervene and stop what he termed harassment and intimidation of members.

He alleged that party members are unable to freely express their views on NDC platforms, claiming that individuals who speak out are subsequently targeted by the police.

Mr. Mensah further suggested that the arrests may be influenced by individuals linked to the constituency’s Member of Parliament, warning that the situation could undermine the party’s prospects in the 2028 general elections.

He, however, stressed that the constituency executives remain willing to work with the MP, noting that some people around her are allegedly creating disunity and confusion within the party.

Several communication officers in the constituency echoed concerns about intimidation, urging the police to stop what they described as unnecessary arrests of party members who have not committed any offence.
