The Sehwi Wiawso Magistrate Court, presided over by His Worship Eric Baah Boateng, has granted bail to the matron and a cook of Awaso STEM Senior High School who are standing trial for the alleged diversion of food items meant for students.
The two suspects, identified as Nyamadi Benedicta, the school matron, and Rachel Kyeremateng, a cook, have been charged with stealing after food supplies intended for the school were allegedly diverted to a private residence at Atronsu in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.
Items reportedly involved in the alleged theft include 21 bags of rice, six gallons of cooking oil, 40 tins of tomatoes, four boxes of milk, one bag of sugar, as well as quantities of maize, millet, gari and other foodstuffs.
In a related development, the assistant matron, Hannah Dufie, has been arrested following preliminary investigations that allegedly linked her to the offence.
All three suspects are expected to reappear before the Sehwi Wiawso Magistrate Court on January 12, 2026, as investigations continue.
