The Member of Parliament for Atiwa West, Laurette Korkor Asante, has lost her mother, Vida Adwoa Ago Asante.
Mrs. Asante passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, surrounded by her family.
Her passing was confirmed in a statement issued by Minority Leader and Effutu MP, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who expressed condolences to the lawmaker.
The statement described Mrs. Asante as a distinguished matriarch whose legacy of service to Ghana will endure across generations.
“She was the mother of the Member of Parliament for Atiwa West, Hon. Laurette Korkor Asante, and Ambassador Nana Bediatuo Asante, former Secretary to the President under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo from 2017 to 2025,” the statement read.
“She was also mother to Kwesi Kuntunkununku Asante, Barbara Kesewaa Asante, and Dr. Abena Asante-Quashie, and grandmother to fifteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren,” it added.
Mrs. Asante is survived by her husband, Piesie Kofi Asante, a respected former career diplomat and former Chairman of the GIMPA Council, whose own public service career reflected the couple’s shared commitment to national development.
According to the Minority Caucus, Ghana has lost not only a respected citizen but a woman of wisdom, grace, and quiet strength whose influence resonated through her family, diplomacy, and public service.

“True greatness is measured not by personal acclaim, but by the character and contributions of those we raise and inspire,” the statement said, describing Mrs Asante as a woman who devoted her life to integrity, service and excellence.
The Caucus highlighted that her impact is visible in the national and international achievements of her children, whom she nurtured into leaders, professionals and patriots who have brought honour to Ghana.
The Minority Caucus extended its condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones, praying for strength and comfort in this time of grief.
