The District Chief Executive (DCE) for [“region”,”Asutifi South”,”Ahafo Region, Ghana”], Benjamin Assabil Donkor, has officially commissioned a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound in Konkontereso that had been abandoned for nine years. The facility is set to provide essential primary healthcare services to local residents.

In an interview with Adom News, Donkor explained that the project was initiated by the previous government but was never completed. As a result, residents faced significant challenges in accessing healthcare services from nearby communities such as Acherensua, Tepa, and Hwidiem. To address this, the district assembly decided to complete the project and operationalize the facility.

He noted that the commissioning of the CHPS compound included the provision of permanent staff, medications, and other healthcare supplies to ensure quality services for the community, with health staff expected to begin work immediately.

Receiving the facility on behalf of the Ghana Health Service, Barikisu Abukari, commended the DCE for his efforts to make the facility operational. She highlighted the long-standing difficulties residents faced in accessing quality healthcare services.

Abukari also mentioned that in 2017, the NPP government handed the facility over to the Ghana Health Service, but it could not operate the CHPS compound because it was virtually empty and lacked an assigned nurse. Over the years, the abandoned facility had been a major concern for both the Ghana Health Service and the community. The district assembly’s decision to furnish and operationalize it is therefore a significant relief for residents.
