Asutifi North MP pledges cooperation with police over Hwidiem clashes

-

The Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, has expressed his willingness to cooperate fully with the police in investigations into the recent violent clash between residents and the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) team at Hwidiem in the Ahafo Region.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Addo said he had nothing to hide and was ready to comply with any probe by the authorities.

“I will comply with the investigation, and my lawyers are with me on that. It’s an allegation. I am a peacemaker and a law-abiding person,” he said.

His comments follow a directive by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, instructing the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters to take over the case.

Preliminary reports have linked Mr. Addo to the incident, alleging that he incited a mob and obstructed a NAIMOS operation aimed at arresting illegal miners near Bronikrom on Saturday, November 1, 2025.

According to the police, the NAIMOS team had earlier arrested several suspects and seized weapons, ammunition, unregistered vehicles, and mobile phones before the attack occurred.
