The Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, has been arraigned in court over allegations that he interfered with an anti-illegal mining operation conducted by the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) near Bronikrom–Hwediem in the Ahafo Region.
Majority Leader and Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga, confirmed the development in Parliament.
According to Mr. Ayariga, Dr. Addo reported to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in the company of the Majority Chief Whip, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, and his legal counsel before being officially charged.
“He went with the Majority Chief Whip and his lawyer. They received him at the CID headquarters and took him through the processes. I received a call not quite long ago that he has been taken to court, and as we speak, he is in court being arraigned,” Mr. Ayariga told Parliament.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, November 1, 2025, reportedly involved a confrontation between a group of youth and a NAIMOS task force during a raid on illegal mining sites.
Mr. Addo is accused of inciting the youth to resist the task force, but he has strongly denied the allegation. The legislator explained that his involvement was solely to help restore calm and prevent the situation from escalating into violence.
