National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketie, has encouraged party members to celebrate the party’s commitment to efficiency and fiscal discipline, highlighting that the government’s decision to limit ministerial appointments to 60 is aimed at creating a leaner, more effective administration under President John Dramani Mahama.
During a tour of the Central Region, Mr Asiedu Nketia explained that the party had intentionally decided to reduce the size of government, limiting ministerial positions to 60.
“We collectively agreed that the previous administration’s 125 ministers were too many,” he said. “Our government will appoint only 60, so don’t hold President Mahama responsible if you are not included.”
He added that the decision to cap appointments was a collective one, aimed at improving efficiency and promoting fiscal discipline, rather than the preference of a single individual.
The NDC had previously criticised the former administration’s large number of ministerial appointments, describing them as unnecessary and costly.
According to Mr Asiedu Nketia, reducing the number of ministers is part of the party’s broader plan to run a leaner, more cost-effective government that delivers results to the people.
