Asiedu Nketia calls on Nkwanta South Chiefs to promote peace for development

National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has urged chiefs and residents of Nkwanta South to uphold peace as a foundation for development in the area.

He noted that recent conflicts have negatively affected the community and stressed the importance of unity and harmony to drive progress.

Speaking during his thank-you tour of Nkwanta South in the Oti Region, Asiedu Nketia said the government has allocated funds for the rehabilitation of the Eastern Corridor Road.

According to him, the project will link the area to southern Ghana and neighbouring countries, creating economic opportunities for local residents.

He also highlighted the significance of the Nkwanta–Damanko and Nkwanta–Dambai road projects, noting that they will substantially boost economic activities.

However, he cautioned that without peace, these developmental initiatives could be undermined, affecting President John Mahama’s vision for national development.

The NDC Chairman further called on party supporters to back policies that will enable the party to remain in government long enough to implement sustainable development programmes. He thanked party members for their hard work, which contributed to the NDC’s victory in the 2024 elections.

Asiedu Nketia also appealed to Ghanaians to provide President Mahama with a peaceful environment necessary for delivering on his development agenda.

Oti Regional Minister John Kwadwo Gyapong commended the chiefs and people of Nkwanta for maintaining peace. He announced a government amnesty programme encouraging individuals with guns or other weapons to voluntarily hand them over to the Oti Regional Police Headquarters to prevent future unrest.

The minister warned that after the six-week amnesty period, security agencies will conduct operations, and anyone found with an unregistered firearm will face legal consequences.
