The Communications Director of Asante Kotoko, Sarfo Duku, has said the club was “not surprised” by Abdul Karim Zito’s resignation as head coach.

Zito stepped down from his role following the club’s exit from the MTN FA Cup on Sunday. Prince Owusu has since been appointed to lead the team on an interim basis until a new substantive head coach is named.

The defeat to Aduana FC compounded the Porcupine Warriors’ struggles, having won just one of their last five games in all competitions.

Zito submitted his resignation letter to management moments before the usual technical meeting held every Monday. The management accepted the letter without attempting to persuade him to stay.

“We were not surprised, because we knew that the coach wasn’t happy with the performance of his team, and so it didn’t come to us as a surprise at all,” Sarfo Duku told Luv FM.

When asked if the club had considered sacking Zito, Sarfo Duku replied, “No, we had no plan to do that. We were to receive the details of what transpired in the course of the match. And then, of course, we have asked the necessary questions.”
