Veteran sports journalist Asante Forkuo has been honoured for his outstanding contribution to sports development, receiving recognition as the most dedicated and longest-serving sports journalist in Cape Coast at the sixth Osabarimba Royal Awards.
The award celebrates over two decades of consistent service, passion, and commitment to sports journalism, a journey Mr. Forkuo says has been driven by God’s grace, hard work, selflessness, voluntary service, respect, and determination.
In a Facebook post after receiving the honour, Mr. Forkuo expressed deep appreciation to the Omanhene of Cape Coast, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta, and the organisers of the prestigious awards scheme for recognising his lifelong dedication to sports and community development.
“Since 2002, this journey has been about service and purpose. I am deeply grateful to God and to the people of Cape Coast for believing in my work,” he said.
Mr. Forkuo also acknowledged the immense support he has received from individuals and institutions that have shaped his career, paying tribute to notable figures including Dr. Kwabena Antwi-Konadu, Prof. Nyarko-Sampson, Fiifi Ofosu-Okyere, Dr. Ogum, Mr. Boye, Barrister Daniels, DKY, Annamam, Eugene, Paul King, and Akosua.

He extended special appreciation to his past and present colleagues at ATL FM and Dormaa FM, mentors, staff of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA), the University of Cape Coast Alumni National Executive Committee, friends, supporters, as well as his wife and family for their unwavering encouragement throughout his career.
In an emotional moment, Mr. Forkuo dedicated the award to two late mentors who played pivotal roles in his journey—Devine Joseph, who introduced him to radio broadcasting, and Winner Man, his adviser, whose guidance and wisdom helped shape his professional path.
“This award belongs to everyone who walked this journey with me, especially those who are no longer with us but laid the foundation,” he noted.

The Osabarimba Royal Awards celebrate excellence, service, and impact across various sectors in the Cape Coast traditional area, recognising individuals whose work continues to uplift the community.
