Arthur Kobina Kennedy visited Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Friday, February 13, 2026, at the Vice President’s request as part of his engagements with key stakeholders across the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The meetings were aimed at understanding the party’s current mood and exploring ways to strengthen internal cohesion.
Before meeting Dr. Bawumia, Kennedy had consultations with influential party figures including Prof. Frimpong Boateng, Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe, Kwabena Agyapong, Boakye Agyarko, Kwame Pianim, Kwadwo Mpiani, and former President John Kufuor, among others. These interactions provided Kennedy with a broad perspective on the party’s challenges and opportunities.
During the 45-minute discussion, Kennedy described the meeting as candid, serious, and forward-looking. He said the focus was on reconciling the party, not only between flagbearer aspirants and prominent critics but also with the broader voting base. Both men acknowledged that the party had “lost its way,” which contributed to the historic defeat in the 2024 elections.
A key concern highlighted was the alienation of grassroots members, including the 1.2 million who voted for President John Mahama and the millions who abstained from voting. Kennedy stressed that these members must be brought back into the fold, and that Dr. Bawumia, as a national leader, would play an indispensable role in restoring party unity.
The meeting also tackled the harmful influence of money in politics, which Kennedy warned is transforming Ghana’s democracy into a plutocracy and fueling corruption. He emphasized that addressing these issues requires action and tangible progress, not mere rhetoric or photo opportunities.
Kennedy praised Dr. Bawumia for his leadership and urged party members to provide him with time and support as he implements reforms and rebuilds trust within the party. He called for a return to the NPP’s traditions of unity, patriotism, and vibrancy, echoing the cohesion the party displayed under former President Kufuor in 1999.
In closing, Kennedy encouraged members to be guided by truth, which he said would lead to freedom, victories, and the restoration of the party’s stature. He concluded with a rallying call: “Kukrudu! Kukrudu! May God bless the NPP and may God bless Ghana.”
