The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) is set to host a four-day “Eat Ghana, Wear Ghana Week” celebration from Monday, March 16 to Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the forecourt of the Assembly in Accra to promote locally produced goods and celebrate Ghanaian culture.
Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has invited traders and residents across the capital to actively participate in the initiative, which is aimed at encouraging the patronage of Ghanaian food, clothing, and other locally made products.
The Mayor made the call when a delegation from the Ghana National Tomato Traders and Transporters Association paid a courtesy visit to him at the Assembly.
Addressing the traders, he explained that the programme forms part of efforts by the Assembly to promote Ghanaian culture while strengthening support for local industries.
According to him, Ghana’s cultural identity and traditions can only be sustained when citizens deliberately choose to support locally produced goods and services.
He stressed that the “Eat Ghana, Wear Ghana” initiative seeks to ensure that activities and consumption patterns within the city reflect Ghanaian values and traditions.
“Ghana belongs to us, and we must all make conscious efforts to support our own culture and industries,” the Mayor noted.
Activities for the four-day celebration will include a Corporate Ghana Day on Monday, followed by a “Rep Your Region” cultural display on Tuesday, where participants will showcase the culture and traditions of various regions.
Wednesday has been designated as Fugu Day and will feature traditional games, while Thursday will climax the celebration with a cooking competition highlighting Ghanaian dishes.
The programme is expected to attract traders, cultural groups, and residents as part of efforts to promote local products and celebrate Ghana’s rich heritage.
