A political analyst, Dr. Ebenezer Teye Amanor Lartey, has commended all stakeholders involved in the just-ended Ayawaso East by-election, describing the exercise as peaceful, transparent, and professionally managed.

Speaking in an interview, Dr. Lartey particularly praised the Electoral Commission of Ghana for what he described as a commendable performance.

“The Electoral Commission must be highly applauded for the professionalism and transparency demonstrated throughout the Ayawaso East by-election. They handled the process very well and ensured a smooth and credible exercise,” he stated.

He also lauded the Ghana Police Service for maintaining security and order during the polls.

“The Ghana Police Service deserves recognition for providing the necessary security that ensured the election was conducted without any disturbances,” he added.

Dr. Lartey further commended journalists for their responsible and professional coverage of the by-election.

“Journalists also played a critical role by providing accurate and timely information to the public. Their professionalism contributed significantly to the transparency of the process,” he emphasized.

He also praised voters for turning out peacefully to exercise their civic responsibility.

“The voters must be commended for coming out to cast their ballots without any disturbances. Their conduct shows political maturity and respect for the democratic process,” he noted.

Touching on the voter turnout, Dr. Lartey explained that the relatively low turnout should not come as a surprise, describing the constituency as a stronghold of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“Ayawaso East is traditionally an NDC stronghold, so the low turnout is not strange. In many by-elections, especially in areas considered safe seats, turnout is often lower because the outcome is largely predictable,” he explained.

The by-election resulted in the election of Baba Jamal as Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso East Constituency.
