The Akwaboa Traditional Council in the Ashanti Region has urged residents of Ahafo Mim in the Ahafo Region to remain calm amid concerns over the alleged sale of community lands.

The appeal follows the submission of a petition to the Otumfuo’s Akwaboahene by a group of opinion leaders in Mim, seeking his intervention.

The petitioners claim that some traditional authorities are selling lands indiscriminately, a situation they fear could affect future government development projects in the area.

According to them, the continuous sale of lands may leave the community with little or no space for essential infrastructure.

They also raised concerns about alleged land guard brutality, stating that some landowners face intimidation and harassment when attempting to access their lands.

The petitioners explained that the Otumfuo’s Akwaboahene, Nana Kusi Agyapong Appau, oversees all lands within their community, which is why they are seeking the Asantehene’s intervention through him.

Receiving the petition at Bantama in Kumasi, the Adontehene of the Akwaboa Traditional Council, Nana Osei Tutu, assured the petitioners that their concerns will be addressed.

He stated that the Traditional Council has received two separate petitions in the absence of the Otumfuo’s Akwaboahene.

“The Traditional Council has received a petition from the Mim Komfohene and the Benkumhene concerning the unauthorized sale of land by certain traditional leaders, as well as allegations of inappropriate conduct by the Mim Manhene,” Nana Osei Tutu said.

He added that their findings on the petition allegations will be presented to the Akwaboahene upon his return and subsequently forwarded to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for the necessary action.

Nana Osei Tutu further called on residents of Mim to remain calm, assuring them that the appropriate authorities will resolve the issue as soon as possible.

“We want to assure the people of Mim that this issue will be addressed promptly and thoroughly to prevent any outbreak of violence or unrest in the community,” he said.
