Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, joined high-profile dignitaries in Kyebi for the launch of the 100th anniversary celebration and fundraising of the Kyebi Government Hospital.

The event brought together key stakeholders, including the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South and the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, as part of efforts to reflect on the hospital’s legacy and mobilise support for its future development.

Celebrated under the theme “A Century of Quality Healthcare, A Future of Hope and Excellence,” the centenary will also serve as a platform to raise funds for critical infrastructure and service improvement projects at the facility.

Delivering his remarks, Dr. Akoriyea noted that the hospital has, over the past century, served generations of residents and notable personalities across Kyebi and its surrounding communities.

He stressed the need for expansion and urged citizens to support efforts aimed at upgrading the facility.

“It is time for it to grow bigger and expand. It is time for the facility to receive the necessary support from its citizens,” he stated, while also encouraging staff to uphold professionalism and maintain quality healthcare delivery.

In his address as Special Guest of Honour, the Okyenhene recounted the hospital’s evolution from a modest health centre into a key referral facility serving thousands across the Abuakwa South Municipality and neighbouring districts.

He highlighted the hospital’s recent achievements, including being ranked the third-best performing hospital in 2021, second in 2022, and emerging as the overall best-performing primary-level hospital in the Eastern Region in 2023.

The Okyenhene also recognised outstanding staff contributions, citing Mrs. Audrey Adinkra, who was adjudged second-best midwife in the Eastern Region in 2020, and Mrs. Evelyn Darkoh, named Municipal Most Outstanding Staff at the primary level in 2024.

“These achievements are a testament to the dedication, professionalism and resilience of the hospital’s management and staff,” he said, commending the efforts of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory personnel and support staff.

He further urged health workers to maintain respect and professionalism in their interactions with patients and pledged a personal donation of GH¢150,000 to support ongoing projects at the facility.

The centenary celebration is expected to feature a series of activities aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and positioning the hospital for the future.
