Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of six young women during the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra on Wednesday, November 12.

The stampede also left several others injured, some of whom are in critical condition at the 37 Military Hospital.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Akufo-Addo extended his condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a swift recovery.

“I convey to the bereaved families my deep condolences and wish the potential recruits in hospital a rapid recovery from their injuries, and indeed, from the accompanying trauma to all who were at the El Wak stadium, their parents or guardians, and their loved ones,” he wrote.

He described the incident as a national tragedy that has brought immense pain not only to the victims’ families but also to the wider Ghanaian public.

“May the Lord be with us all at this difficult moment,” he added, urging the nation to remain strong and united in mourning the loss.
