Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Legal and Communication Team, Victor Kwadjoga Adawudu, has urged authorities to reopen and thoroughly investigate the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale, following the Attorney General’s decision to discontinue the case.
Speaking on Accra-based Channel One TV, lawyer Adawudu called on investigators to “return to the drawing board” and pursue a more credible, evidence-driven probe.
“For me, this should be an eye-opener. This is something we should look at and go back to the drawing board and look at it and give a specimen. We should be professionals.
“We must improve the way we do investigations. This case should speak to the conscience of the investigators and authorities. I want the investigators to speak the truth,” he said.
He explained that investigative work in Ghana is often hampered by limited resources and inadequate institutional support, resulting in what he described as “armchair investigations.”
“I think some of the people at the top make things difficult for the younger ones. And some of the investigators, too, the system doesn’t have money for them to travel and do all these investigations. And they do armchair investigations.
“I think that if the system is being researched and we’re being bold for authorities to speak the truth. Let us be bold to speak truth to authority. We need to come to the logical conclusion of the killing of Ahmed Suale so that it never happens again,” he stated.
Mr. Adawudu also praised the Attorney General’s decision to drop the case, describing it as a bold and pragmatic move given the lack of solid evidence.
“I commend the Attorney General for being bold. Reasons why it will also be discontinued, as he has given, which is that the evidence that has been brought cannot convict. That means you will go to court and do a shoddy job. If they find facts which connect him [suspect], he can be brought back,” he said.
He further emphasized the need for transparency and professionalism to ensure that justice is ultimately served in Ahmed Suale’s murder case.
On Tuesday, October 14, the Madina District Court discharged the accused, Daniel Owusu Koranteng, who had been facing charges of murder and abetment of murder in connection with Suale’s death, following the Attorney General advice.
Ahmed Suale, a prominent member of the Tiger Eye P.I. investigative team, was shot and killed by unknown gunmen in January 2019 — a crime that sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice.
However, investigations into the murder have made little progress, with minimal evidence linking suspects to the killing.
