The Communication Teams of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Asutifi North, Asutifi South, and the Ahafo Region have strongly denied allegations that MPs Alhaji Collins Dauda (Asutifi South) and Dr. Ebenezer Kwaku Addo (Asutifi North) incited youth to attack officials of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) during an operation at Hwidiem.
Speaking at a press conference and after a visit to the site, Asutifi South Communication Officer Asafo Agyei Baffour described the claims as “false, baseless, and intended to tarnish the image” of the two MPs.
He stressed that neither legislator has any interest in illegal mining activities and added that, as members of the NDC, they would never act against the directives of former President John Dramani Mahama, who has consistently condemned galamsey.
Mr. Baffour also dismissed as “ridiculous” claims that Dr. Addo could mobilize over 600 “machomen” within five minutes, insisting such reports lack credibility.
He called on security agencies to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident at Bronikrom and the Hwidiem Police Station to establish the facts.
The NDC communicator further urged investigators to visit the actual operation site to determine whether the mining activities were indeed illegal, emphasizing the need for fairness and accuracy in reporting the incident.
