ADB sponsors GH¢20,000 award for WAEC’s 2nd Overall Best Student

The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) has honoured outstanding students at the prestigious West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Distinction Awards ceremony, held in Cantonments on March 12, 2026.

The event celebrated top-performing students in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). As part of its sponsorship, ADB presented a GH¢20,000 cash prize and a brand-new laptop to the student who emerged as the 2nd Overall Best Candidate.


The award was presented by ADB’s Deputy Managing Director in charge of Services, Professor Ferdinand Ahiakpor, alongside other bank officials, including Jalaludeen Emran Adam, General Manager in charge of Business Banking and Head of Parastatals and Institutional Banking, and Mohammed Ali, Head of Strategic Marketing and Brand Management.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister for Education, Clement Apaak, congratulated Ghana’s top-performing candidates, urging them to maintain discipline and integrity as they pursue their academic ambitions.

Legacy Girls’ College had two students recognised for their exceptional performance in the 2025 WASSCE conducted by WAEC. Huda Suglo Suleman was named Best Overall Candidate in Ghana and Best Candidate in the General Programme (Arts Option), while Paula Adzo Elinam Sowu was recognised as the 2nd Best Overall Candidate in Ghana.

Other notable performers included Matthea Aba Andoh of Hope College, who placed third overall; Eric Aduamoah Larbi of Presec Boys’ Legon, the best Business candidate; and Philip Dadzie Quaicoe of Mfantsipim School, the best Technical candidate.
