The Acting Minister for Defence, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced the establishment of an internal board of inquiry to investigate the tragic stampede that occurred during the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.
Addressing Parliament on Wednesday, Dr. Forson expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved families on behalf of the Ministry and the GAF.
“The Ministry of Defence deeply mourns the loss of lives and extends heartfelt condolences to the affected families. We are working closely with the Ghana Armed Forces, medical teams, and law enforcement agencies to support the injured and investigate the circumstances leading to this tragedy,” he stated.
Dr. Forson explained that the internal board would ensure accountability and recommend measures to prevent a recurrence, stressing that the safety and dignity of applicants remain a top priority.
Although details about the board’s composition and duration of work have not yet been disclosed, the Minister assured Parliament that findings from the investigation would guide future recruitment exercises.
The tragic incident, which occurred on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, claimed six lives and left several others injured. The victims are currently receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces has suspended the recruitment exercise in the Greater Accra Region until further notice as investigations continue.
