Sympathizers of Ghanaian socialite Abu Trica staged a spirited protest outside the Gbese Court on Wednesday, calling on authorities to free him.

The demonstration comes as Abu Trica faces charges tied to an $8 million online romance scam, with prosecutors seeking his extradition to the United States.
Supporters held placards bearing messages such as “Free Abu Trica,” “EOCO Boss Set Abu Trica and Daniel Up,” and “The Government of Ghana, Learn to Protect Your Own Nationals.” They wore matching t-shirts and tied red bands around their wrists, in solidarity and protest against what they described as unfair treatment.

Demonstrators argued that Abu Trica is a legitimate car dealer with no involvement in fraudulent activities.
Abu Trica and his alleged accomplice, Daniel Yusif, appeared in court as proceedings continue to determine whether they should be extradited to the United States to face trial.

The case stems from a U.S. indictment accusing Abu Trica of participating in a large-scale online romance scam estimated at over $8 million.

He was first arrested on December 11, 2025, following the indictment. On January 26, 2026, the Gbese District Court discharged him and his co-accused after the state withdrew the initial charges.
Shortly after his release, Abu Trica was re-arrested by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), with prosecutors filing fresh charges, including money laundering and conspiracy to defraud by false pretence.
