Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has assured displaced Ghanaians affected by recent communal conflicts that every effort is being made to ensure their welfare and safe return home.
While on official duties in Ethiopia, Mr. Ablakwa held separate telephone discussions with the Foreign Ministers of Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire, both of whom pledged their governments’ continued support for the affected Ghanaians.
He expressed gratitude to Burkina Faso’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré, and Côte d’Ivoire’s Foreign Minister, Hon. Kacou Houadja Léon Adom, describing their support as “true Pan-African solidarity.”
“Our neighbours have demonstrated admirable belief in the ECOWAS spirit of free movement and genuine brotherhood. They have warmly hosted our compatriots in their moment of need,” Ablakwa said.
The discussions produced an actionable roadmap to safeguard the welfare of the displaced citizens, including urgent meetings between Ghana’s embassy officials and the respective foreign ministries to explore additional support measures. Preparations are also underway for Ablakwa’s working visit to both countries to meet and assist the Ghanaians directly.
He assured that the Mahama-led government remains committed to the safety of every Ghanaian. “The administration will continue to care for all Ghanaians, and no one will be left behind,” he emphasized.
Meanwhile, both Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire have pledged to facilitate the minister’s visit and support his delegation in providing further assistance to the affected citizens.
