Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has emphasised the importance of mentorship in fostering a strong and sustainable Ghanaian economy, speaking at the Kwahu Business Forum 2026.
“No economy becomes truly strong when success is hoarded,” he said, calling on established entrepreneurs, industrialists, financiers, and corporate leaders to invest deliberately in mentoring young and upcoming business leaders.
According to Mr Debrah, those who have built successful enterprises carry a responsibility not only to preserve their achievements but to help reproduce excellence in the next generation.
He urged seasoned business leaders to open doors, share hard-earned lessons, and provide guidance that allows emerging entrepreneurs to avoid preventable mistakes.
“Transfer not only capital, but wisdom, judgment, and discipline, as well as perspective,” he said.
However, Mr Debrah stressed that mentorship is a two-way street. Young business leaders must approach guidance with humility, discipline, and a willingness to learn, recognising that listening to experienced mentors is essential to enduring success.
“No one bears anything enduring by rejecting counsel. Mentorship is not charity. It is an economic strategy,” he added.
The Chief of Staff framed mentorship as a vital tool for building resilient institutions, nurturing innovation, and expanding opportunities, reinforcing its central role in ensuring Ghana’s long-term economic prosperity.
