The Jomoro Municipal Assembly in the Western Region, led by Municipal Chief Executive Benedict Boadi, along with the people of Jomoro, have expressed their appreciation to the Member of Parliament for Jomoro and Deputy Minister for Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, and former Chief of Defence Staff General Augustine Blay (Rtd) for their tireless dedication, visionary leadership, and commitment to establishing the first-ever public tertiary institution in the municipality.

Officials noted that such a historic achievement is not handed on a silver platter but is the result of hard work, dedication, and love for the country.

In a press release, MCE Benedict Boadi explained that the journey toward this milestone began in 2015 when General Blay, during the first administration of President John Dramani Mahama, initiated efforts to secure a public tertiary institution for Jomoro. However, the change of government in 2016 stalled progress on the project.

“General Blay continued to pursue the project even under the NPP government, but those efforts yielded no result,” the statement said.

Following the return of the NDC to power in 2024, renewed momentum was injected into the initiative through a strategic and collaborative effort led by General Blay and Hon. Affo-Toffey. After a detailed briefing by General Blay on the steps he had taken in previous years, Hon. Affo-Toffey leveraged her portfolio to support the project.

“Their joint commitment culminated in a renewed drive last year, during which a practical and compelling case was presented for the establishment of the institution. Central to this proposal was the utilisation of General Blay’s former school facility at Ezilinbo, which already had essential infrastructure, significantly reducing the financial burden if the government were to start construction from scratch,” the release stated.

Mr. Boadi added that the Municipal Assembly deliberately refrained from making premature public announcements until the project reached a tangible and realisable stage.

“The Office of the MCE is also pleased to inform the people of Jomoro that, through additional efforts by Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey, a new contractor has been engaged to address network challenges in Jaway and Mpaesem through the installation of new communication poles,” he said.
