Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) chairman Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe has said Otto Addo should have been dismissed much earlier from his role as Black Stars head coach.
Addo, 50, who was reappointed in March 2024, was relieved of his duties following a string of disappointing results in recent pre-World Cup friendlies. Ghana suffered a heavy 5–1 defeat to Austria in Vienna before losing 2–1 to Germany in Stuttgart.
Speaking in an interview with Kessben FM, the Hearts of Oak board member insisted the decision to part ways with the former Borussia Dortmund talent coach came too late.
“Otto Addo should have been sacked long ago; he has been a disappointment,” he said.
Dr Tamakloe also revealed that the coach ignored advice he offered regarding the inclusion of locally based players in the national team setup.
“I advised Otto Addo to travel across the country to scout local players, but he asked if I wanted him to become a laughingstock. Today, the situation speaks for itself,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association is expected to name a new head coach within the next two weeks.
The Black Stars will regroup in May and June for their final preparatory matches against Mexico and Wales.
Ghana has been drawn in Group L for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they will face Panama, England, and Croatia when the tournament kicks off on June 11 across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
