The Conference of Presiding Members in the Volta Region has issued a strong warning to media outlets, civil society organisations, and the public to uphold accuracy and responsibility in reporting, particularly on matters involving high-profile individuals and institutions.
Speaking at a press conference in Ho, the regional capital, the Conference expressed concern over a series of publications and press releases attributed to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), as well as commentary circulating on traditional and social media.
The Conference noted that some reports risk undermining the reputation of His Eminence Gabriel Tanko Kwamegah-Atokple, while threatening regional peace and institutional stability.
Members stressed the importance of adhering to professional ethics, urging journalists to verify information before publication and to avoid creating narratives that could incite public mistrust or disrupt social harmony.
“We remind media outlets, civil society, and all stakeholders of their responsibility to report accurately. Respect the law and avoid creating narratives that undermine the personality of His Eminence,” the Conference stated.
The presiding members further called on civil society groups and commentators to act responsibly in the interest of justice, truth, and development within the Volta Region.
The statement, read by Moses Kwasi Awukuvi-Danyevor, serves as a reminder that misinformation can spread quickly and have far-reaching consequences. The Conference affirmed its commitment to safeguarding the peace and integrity of the region and warned that lawful measures would be taken against those who threaten its stability.
