Former Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority, Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, has backed the decision of the Ghana Football Association to sack Otto Addo as Black Stars head coach, with less than three months to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 50-year-old was dismissed following Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Germany in Stuttgart on Monday night, their second international friendly in March. The Black Stars had earlier suffered a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria in Vienna.

“It is a good call,” Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, a former Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, said in an interview on Asempa FM.

While welcoming the decision, he expressed concern about the GFA’s next move, stressing the need for a high-calibre replacement to boost Ghana’s chances at the tournament.

“My concern now is: who are we employing? Let’s go for a top-notch coach. Let’s dedicate good money to top-class coaches. Any coach available for 200,000 USD monthly who can deliver results, let’s go for it. There should be no nepotism in appointments. We should get a world-class coach,” he said.

Otto Addo leaves with a poor record in recent friendlies, having lost all four matches since securing qualification for the World Cup.

Ghana is set to face Mexico and Wales in May and June as part of final preparations, with the GFA under pressure to appoint a successor quickly and restore stability ahead of the tournament.

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama, and will be aiming to progress beyond the group stage for the first time since 2010.
