The Rent Control Department has postponed the enforcement of its directive requiring landlords to issue rent cards to tenants to May 1, 2026.
In a statement issued on March 30, the Office of the Rent Commissioner said the decision follows extensive consultations with landlord associations and other stakeholders after the initial directive.
The enforcement, which was originally scheduled to take effect on April 1 and would have restricted services to non-compliant landlords, has been temporarily put on hold to allow for further engagement and compliance.
The Department commended landlords who have already complied and encouraged others to take advantage of the extension period to regularise their documentation.
It also reminded both landlords and tenants of their legal obligation to register tenancy agreements within two weeks of execution, in line with the Rent Control Law.
Failure to comply, the statement noted, constitutes an offence and may attract sanctions.
The Department urged the public to visit the nearest Rent Control Office for further information and assistance.
