Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has opened up about his concerns regarding Antoine Semenyo’s performances for the national team, admitting that the forward’s inconsistency has at times kept him awake at night.
While Semenyo has impressed at club level, his output for Ghana has yet to match those standards, a situation that has drawn scrutiny from fans and analysts alike.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, Addo highlighted both the pressure on the player and the technical team’s role in his development.
“Yeah, it’s a good question. Sometimes I don’t sleep because of this. I know there were times when a lot of people said he’s not good enough,” Addo said.
“We got him when he was at Bristol City and guided him. Then he went to Bournemouth, and now he’s at Manchester City. I think we also have a part in developing him and giving him confidence. We’re very, very happy with where he is at this stage,” he added.
Semenyo, who featured in Ghana’s recent 5-1 defeat to Austria, is expected to play again when the Black Stars face Germany at the MHP Arena in Stuttgart, with kickoff scheduled for 18:45 GMT.
Despite being among the top scorers in the Premier League this season, Semenyo’s international record remains modest, with three goals in 32 appearances — a form that continues to spark debate over his role in the national team.
